Abstract
These Regulations give effect to Council Directive 1999/32/EC relating to a reduction in the sulphur content of certain liquid fuels, as amended by Directive 2005/33/EC.
The amending Directive broadens the purpose and scope of the principal Directive to include territorial seas and marine fuels.
These Regulations prohibit the use of heavy fuel oils, gas oil or marine fuels that do not meet standards as laid down by these Regulations. Furthermore, they include requirements in relation to the keeping of ships’ logbooks and establishment of a register of marine fuel suppliers and make provision for enforcement, sampling and analysis of fuels, prosecution of offences and penalties.
