Abstract
These Regulations amend the Waste Management Act 1996 for the purpose of giving effect in Ireland to Directive 2002/95/EC on the Restriction of Hazardous Substances in Electrical and Electronic Equipment and Directive 2002/96/EC on Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment as amended. The Regulations promote the recovery of waste electrical and electronic equipment and enhance the collection, treatment, recovery and disposal of waste electrical and electronic equipment in an environmentally sound manner. They also aim at minimizing waste arising from certain hazardous substances by prohibiting the use of certain heavy metals in electrical and electronic equipment.
