Abstract
This Act amends the Water Services Act 2007: in section 5 by modifying definitions of EU pollution prevention legislation (Council Directive 76/464/EEC and Directive 2008/98/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council): in section 22 in paragraph (b) of subsection (8) by inserting “or an inspector appointed by the Agency in accordance with section 70E” after “or a member of the Garda Síochána”; and by inserting a new Part (4A) on Domestic waste water treatment systems. This new Part concerns systems involving physical, chemical, biological or thermal processes, or a combination of such processes utilized for the treatment or disposal of domestic waste water, or the sludge derived from domestic waste water, including drains. It, among other things: defines duties of owners of premises connected to domestic waste water treatment systems; and provides for inspections by inspectors appointed by the Environmental Protection Agency and a national inspection plan with regard to the inspection and monitoring of domestic waste water treatment systems.
