The Wildlife (Import and Export of Fauna and Flora) (Designation of Ports and Airports) Regulations, 2001 establish specific ports and airports in Ireland as designated points for the import and export of wildlife specimens under the Wildlife Act 1976. These regulations are aligned with the requirements of the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). The regulations specify that Cork Port and Dublin Port are designated for all species of plants and their parts, including flowers, roots, seeds, and spores. Additional ports, such as Drogheda, Foynes, Greenore, Limerick, and Wicklow, are designated specifically for timber-related plant products. Dublin, Shannon, and Cork Airports are designated for both live plants and animals, with Cork Airport limited to plant parts and derivatives. These designations are intended to regulate and monitor trade with third countries in accordance with EU and international conservation obligations.
