Abstract
This Ordinance regulates the taking and landing of fish in Israel, defines powers of enforcement of fishery officers and other public officers and regulation making powers of the Minister of Agriculture, creates offences, and prescribes penalties in relation to fisheries in Israel. "Israel" is here defined so as to include that part of the sea within six nautical miles measures from the low water mark. "Fish" includes shellfish, turtles, and aquatic mammals. A licence to take fish may be granted by the Minister of Agriculture or any officer duly authorized by him in accordance with section 3. Licences may be granted exclusively for a specified area. Section 3a provides for the granting of licences to employ vessels for the taking of fish. Granting of licences shall only to fishing vessels registered in Israel. Only in special circumstances the Minister of Agriculture may grant licences to fish to foreigners. Section 4 allows foreigners to land fish in Israel after having obtained a permit of the Minister or an authorized officer. Section 5 prohibits the use of explosives or poison. Powers of fishery officers, police officers, custom officers or any other officer empowered by the Minister, are outlined in section 6. Vessels, gear, and catch may be confiscated under section 8 by court order in case of conviction or order of a specified judge on application of the Director of Fisheries in the case of alleged offence.
