Abstract
These Rules, consisting of 24 Sections and two Forms, prescribe functions necessary to carry out provisions of the Biological Diversity Act. The Rules prescribe manner of selection, terms of office, conditions of service, etc. of the Chairperson of the Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board and defines his/hers powers and duties.
The Rules provide for general functions of the Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board, including: advise the State Government on matters relating to the conservation of biodiversity, sustainable use of its components and equitable sharing of the benefits arising from the use of biological resources; provide livelihood support to sustainable livelihoods; facilitate updating and implementation of State Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan; and plan and organize training of personnel engaged or likely to be engaged in programmes for the conservation of biological biodiversity.
The Rules further provide for: procedures and the application form for obtaining permission to access or collect biological resources; restrictions on or prohibition of activities related to access to biological resources prescribed by the Board; operation of the State Biodiversity Fund; establishment and management of biodiversity heritage sites; constitution of Biodiversity Management Committees; etc.
