Abstract
This Act made by the State of Bihar, is an Act to regulate and control the Development and Management of Ground Water and matters connected therewith or incidental thereto. The main aims and purposes are to keep control of the exploitation of groundwater in those regions of the State, where groundwater exploitation exceeds its availability. Moreover, provisions are being made to improve groundwater status in the critical areas by adopting methods that can conserve rainwater and ensure groundwater recharge. Chapter II provides for the establishment of a Ground Water Authority, which shall be in charge of regulating and controlling the development and management of groundwater. Chapter III makes provision on rainwater harvesting for groundwater recharge, it stipulates that the Authority may identify the recharge worthy areas in the State and issue necessary guidelines for adoption of rain water harvesting for groundwater recharge in these areas. Chapter IV concerns offences and establishes the penalties to be applied to infringe these provisions.
