Chhattisgarh Food Security Act, 2012.

This Act is enacted to provide for food and nutritional security by ensuring access to adequate quantity of food and other requirements of good nutrition for people of the Chhattisgarh State, at affordable prices, at all times to live a life with dignity.
Chapter II makes provisions for food security. Section 3 provides for the right to receive food items at subsidized prices by antyodaya households, priority households and general households. The State Government may prescribe guidelines for the identification of Autyodaya Households and Priority Households for the purposes of their entitlement. Section 4-5 stipulate nutritional support to pregnant women and lactating mothers, and nutritional support to children. The State Government shall also identify and provide appropriate meals to children who suffer from malnutrition (Sec. 7).
Chapter III makes provisions for entitlements of special groups, which include destitute persons, homeless persons, the migrants and their households (Sec.8). Section 9 deals with nutritional support to emergency or disaster affected persons. Chapter VIII provides for women empowerment. The eldest woman who is not less than the age of eighteen years, in every eligible household, shall be head of the household for the purpose of issue of the ration card (Sec.17).
The Act further makes provisions, inter alia, for: guidelines for providing relief in case of hunger, responsibility of local bodies to provide relief in case of hunger, financial responsibility of the State Government, and the power of the State Government to undertake necessary reforms in the Targeted Public Distribution System.
