Abstract
This Act regulates the use of plastic and other non-biodegradable material and aims to control and prevent disposing of nonbiodegradable material/garbage in public drains, roads and public places. It empowers the state government to restrict, prohibit, regulate or manage the use, manufacture, sale, purchase, storage, distribution of non-biodegradable material within the state of Chhattisgarh. The Act prohibits any person from burning or throwing in any drain, ventilation shaft, pipe and fittings, connected with the public drainage work, canals, ponds, streams, river or wetland, any non-biodegradable material or any biodegradable material placed in a non-biodegradable bag or container. The local authority is responsible to make provisions for separate litter bins for biodegradable, non-biodegradable and domestic hazardous waste at convenient locations and recycle or safely dispose the same. The owners and occupiers of lands and buildings must ensure that non-biodegradable garbage is disposed at the proper collection points and segregated the garbage. The Act provides penalties and punishment for contravention of the provisions of the Act.
