Abstract
These Rules are made in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) and clause (ii) of sub-section (2) of section 3, sub-section (1) of section 6, section 23 and sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986. Rule 3 lays down the conditions for grant of Ecomark and the criteria for different products is mentioned in the First Schedule to the Rules. Rule 4 provides for the procedure for grant of Ecomark. The use of Ecomark is restricted to products that are granted such Ecomark in respect of a product as per these Rules. Rule 7 requires the Central Government to set up a Steering Committee for implementation of these Rules and the composition of the same is provided. Rule 9 lays down the functions of the Central Pollution Control Board. The Central Pollution Control Board shall develop a web portal for making applications for grant of Ecomark, registration of verifiers, auditors and agencies for effective monitoring of the products for compliance with the conditions for Ecomark under these Rules.
