Abstract
This amendment of the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986, triggered by court directions, inserts a new Part (115) in Schedule I to the Regulations on the use of Domestic Water Purification Systems (DWPS) and Other than Domestic Water Purification System”(ODPWS). All users of DWPS and ODWPS shall comply with the guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB). The CPCB shall issue a guideline on handling, storage, management and utilisation of reject generated from DWPS and ODWPS. The Rules set out requirements (licences, authorizations, standard marking) that both manufacturers and users on purification systems shall comply with and defines supervisory and other duties of Union agencies. The Water Supply Agency (WSA) and concerned local bodies engaged in potable water supply shall inform the consumers about the water sources and quality including Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) concentration of water being supplied on regular basis.

Notes
Users of domestic water purification system (DWPS) and other water purification system (ODPWS) have to comply with the guidelines issued by the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) within six months of the promulgation of this regulation.
