Abstract
This Act is enacted to amend Indian Forest Act 1927.
The long title of the Act is amended as: An act to provide for conservation, enrichment and sustainable management of forest resources and matters connected therewith to safeguard ecological stability to ensure provision of ecosystem services in perpetuity and to address the concerns related to climate change and international commitments.
Amendments are made on the definations, power to reserve forests, bar on accrual of forest rights, powers of Forest Settlement-officer, treatment of claims relating to practice of shifting cultivation, power to acquire land over which right is claimed, order on claims to rights of pasture or to forest produce, protection of forests at request of owners, formation of village-forests, protected forests, power to issue notification declaring conservation area, reserving trees, etc.
