This document contains India’s long-term low greenhouse gas emission development strategies (LT-LEDS). It consists of 6 chapters: 1. Introduction; 2. Strategic Transitions; 3. Research and Innovation; 4. Adaptation and Resilience; 5. LiFE - Lifestyle for Environment; and 6. International Cooperation.
Chapter 1 provides the context and describes the approach for India’s LT-LEDS. It outlines India’s current commitments and institutional framework to execute the LT-LEDS. Chapter 2 discusses seven key low-carbon development transitions: i. Low Carbon Development of Electricity Systems; ii. Develop an Integrated, Efficient, Inclusive, Low-Carbon Transport System; iii. Promoting Adaptation in Urban Design, Energy and Material-Efficiency in Buildings, and Sustainable Urbanisation; iv. Promoting economy-wide decoupling of growth from emissions and development of an efficient, innovative, low-carbon industrial system; v. CO2 Removal and Related Engineering Solutions; vi. Enhancing Forest and Vegetation Cover; and vii. Economic and Financial Aspects of Low-Carbon Development and Long-Term Transition to Net-Zero by 2070.
Chapter 3 discusses innovative technologies for the energy sector and industrial systems, sustainable bioresource & marine biotechnologies to reduce emissions. It also identifies the gaps and structural issues related to industrial long-term transitions. Chapter 4 lays down the climate change impact on India and the adaptation strategies. Chapter 5 describes the Mission LiFE programme – a resilient and sustainable lifestyle - launched by India’s Prime Minister as a global initiative to combat climate change. Chapter 6 talks about strengthening global climate action through multilateral climate initiatives and platforms, improving access to climate finance, facilitating technology transfer, and support for losses and damages, and building cooperative rather than exclusionary global processes.
