Abstract
This Act provides for safety and welfare measures for migratory shepherds in the state of Karnataka. The Act allows for registration of traditional migratory shepherds as beneficiaries under this Act. The procedure for registration is laid down. The competent authority shall issue identity cards to every beneficiary. The state government shall frame welfare schemes for traditional migratory shepherds in respect of grant of land, housing, insurance, education, skill upgradation, food security, livestock vaccination and treatment, compensation for loss of livestock and other benefits that the state may notify. A market fee shall be levied on every person purchasing sheep or goat and the proceeds shall be credited to the Traditional Migratory Shepherd Welfare Fund. The Act lays down punishment for offences committed against traditional migratory shepherds.
