Abstract
This Act is enacted to unify and amend the law relating to irrigation in the State of Maharashtra.
Part II provides for canal officers, their charges and powers. The Appropriate Authority may appoint the Chief Engineer to be in-charge of Canal of the irrigation generally. Part III and IV deal with construction and maintenance of canals, and construction of field-canals. Part V provides for the acquisition of land for canals and field-canals. Part VI makes provisions for water supply, icluding: supply of Water on an application and the supply rates; supply of water on volumetric basis; supply of water under irrigution agreements; supply of water under scheme; etc. The Appropriate Authority may fix a ceiling on the area of crops whuich may be grown on the lands under the irrigable command of a canal with water from such canal, and on the area of cash crops specified in such order which may be grown with water from wells situated under the irrigable command of such canal.
The Act further makes provisions for: compensation, offences and penalties, etc.
