Abstract
This Advisory provides for registration and regulation of the activities connected with poultry farming in the state of Maharashtra. The implementation of provisions of the advisory ensures the availability of healthy and disease free poultry meat, eggs and live birds for human consumption. As per the Advisory, registration of every business/enterprise having minimum capacity of 5000 poultry birds and hatcheries having capacity of 500 hatching eggs per cycle is mandatory. It provides for the procedure of application and inspection by the registration authority to ensure compliance with the conditions and laws mentioned therein.
The Advisory prohibits feeding of growth hormones to poultry birds and restricts the use of antibiotics only in case of diseases, in prescribed doses and under the supervision of a Registered Veterinary Practitioner. It further prohibits sale of poultry birds for human consumption before the completion of drug withdrawal period or as prescribed by the veterinarian. Any outbreak is required to be immediately reported by the poultry farm owner to nearest Government Veterinary Hospitals / Dispensaries. The Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils must appoint a Veterinarian for random collection of samples from the poultry market/shops. The poultry farms should follow the protocol of Bio-security measures as issued by Government of India.
