Notification declaring the Kanha National Park and the Phen Wildlife Sanctuary Eco-sensitive Zone.

This Notification is made in exercise of the powers conferred by the Environment (Protection) Act, 1986 read with the Environment (Protection) Rules, 1986. It declares an area varying from zero to thirty kilometers around the boundary of Kanha National Park and the Phen Wildlife Sanctuary in Mandla and Balaghat districts in the state of Madhya Pradesh as the Kanha National Park and the Phen Wildlife Sanctuary Eco-sensitive Zone (ESZ). It provides the extent and boundaries of the ESZ. It requires the state government of Madhya Pradesh to prepare a Zonal Master Plan for the ESZ as per the stipulations in the Notification. The Notification includes measures to be undertaken in respect of land use, water resources, tourism, pollution control and waste disposal. The list of activities prohibited or to be regulated within the ESZ are also laid down. A Monitoring Committee is constituted for effective monitoring of the provisions of the notification.
