Notification of the Ministry of Environment and Forests declaring Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve to be and Eco-sensitive Zone.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests notifies the area up to 7.78 kilometres from the boundary of the protected area of Bandipur National Park and Tiger Reserve as an Eco-sensitive Zone in order to conserve and protect the area from the ecological and environmental point of view, and to protect, propagate or develop wildlife therein.
A Zonal Master Plan for the Eco-sensitive Zone shall be prepared by the State Government and shall provide for restoration of denuded areas, conservation of existing water bodies, management of catchment areas, watershed management, groundwater management, soil and moisture conservation, needs of local community, etc.
The Notification provides for requirements for or limitations on the activities that may be carried out in the zone. It prohibits commercial mining, commercial quarrying, setting of industries, establishment of hotels and resorts; and it allows agriculture and horticulture practices by local communities, rain water harvesting, organic farming.
The Notification further provides for the establishment of the Bandipur Eco-sensitive Zone Monitoring Committee and defines its composition.
