Notification of the Ministry of Environment and Forests declaring Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary to be and Eco-sensitive Zone.

The Ministry of Environment and Forests notifies the area up to 2.5 kilometres from the boundary of the protected area of Narayan Sarovar Wildlife Sanctuary as an Eco-sensitive Zone.
A Zonal Master Plan for the Eco-sensitive Zone shall be prepared by the State Government and shall provide for restoration of denuded areas, conservation of existing water bodies, management of catchment areas, watershed management, groundwater management, soil and moisture conservation, needs of local community, etc.
The Notification provides for requirements for or limitations on the activities that may be carried out in the zone. It prohibits commercial mining, setting of saw mills, setting of industries causing pollution; it allows if in possession of a permit tree felling, establishment of hotels and resorts, change of agriculture systems; and it allows agriculture and horticulture practices by local communities, rain water harvesting, organic farming.
The Notification further provides for the establishment of the Narayan Sarovar Monitoring Committee and defines its composition.
