Notification S.O. 88(E) of the Ministry of Environment and Forests establishing the Aquaculture Authority.

This Order provides for the establishment of the Aquaculture Authority, for its composition and for its powers and functions.
The Authority shall deal with the situation created by the shrimp culture industry in the coastal States and Union Territories. Other functions of the Authority shall include: regulating shrimp culture activities within and outside Coastal Regulation Zone areas; encouraging farmers to adopt improved technology systems of aquaculture; ensuring that the agricultural lands, salt pan lands, mangroves, wetlands, forest lands, etc. shall not be used or converted for the construction of shrimp culture ponds; and dealing with relevant environment issues pertaining to coastal areas with respect to shrimp culture farming.
