Abstract
Considering that lockdown to contain Covid-19 pandemic imposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) Order No. 40-3/2020-DM-I(A) of 24 March 2020 and its amendment, this Order decides restrictions in marine fishing activities for 17 days (from 24.3.2020 till 10.4.2020), and in view of the representations received in this Ministry regarding amendment in the uniform fishing ban period in the EEZ for the current year due to lockdown period, this Ministry in consultation with the Committee of Experts and the coastal States/Union Territories and in view of the interests of the fishermen, has decided to impose the uniform ban on fishing by all fishing vessels in the Indian EEZ beyond territorial waters on the East Coast including Andaman & Nicobar Islands and West Coast including Lakshadweep Islands as per the amended period mentioned below for conservation and effective management of fishery resources and also for sea safety reasons: East Coast - from 15 April to 31 May 2020 (both days inclusive) (47 days). West Coast - from 15 June to 31 July 2020 (both days inclusive) (47 days). The traditional non-motorized units shall be exempted from this fishing ban imposed in the Indian EEZ beyond territorial waters.
