Abstract
This Act regulates the cultivation of tea and provides for the establishment of a Tea Board.
The Act provides for the composition of the Board and for its functions which shall include: development of the tea industry and trade of tea; extension of areas under tea cultivation; encourage research activities concerned with the improvement in the quality of tea production and cultivation methods; regulation of the sale and export of tea; undertake registration and licensing activities aimed at containing adulteration and other undesirable activities. The Board shall also grant permission to plant tea on any land not used for tea cultivation.
The Act further provides for the following matters: management or control of tea undertakings or tea units by the Central Government; control over the export of tea and tea seed, export quotas and licences; levies on tea produced in India; powers of the Central Government to control the price and distribution of tea or tea waste, and acts and proceedings of the Board; etc.

An Act to provide for the control by the Union of the tea industry, including the control, in pursuance of the International Agreement now in force, of the cultivation of tea in, and of the export of tea from, India and for that purpose to establish a Tea Board and levy a duty of excise on tea produced in India.
