Uttarakhand River Valley (Development and Management) Act, 2005 (Uttarakhand Act No. 06 of 2005).

This Act provides for sustainable development and management of river valley and establishment of Bhagirathi River Valley Development Authority (Authority). Chapter II contains provisions in respect of constitution of the Authority, its governance, functions and powers. Chapter III requires the Authority to prepare Master Plan and sectoral development plans. Chapter IV provides for the fund, accounts, audit and annual report of the Authority. Chapter V lays down additional powers of the Authority including the power to issue directions and make regulations. Chapter VI prohibits any major construction or developmental activity in contravention of master plan or sectoral plan to be carried out in the river valley, including commercial mining activities. Chapter VII contains the offences and penalties.
