Abstract
Based on the explicit requirements of the Fifth and Sixth Social, Economic and Cultural Development Plans of the Country, this Law regulates provisions to improve the Iran’s Standard System. The Law consists of 60 articles, divided into six Chapters: General Provisions (I); Responsibilities (II); Structures (III); Crimes and Punishments (IV); Budget and Financial Resources (V); Miscellaneous Provisions (VI). Main objective of the Law is to upgrade, improve and develop the national standard system and to increase the quality and sustainability of the domestic productions. The Law, changes the title of the “Institute of Standards and Industrial Research of Iran” to the “Iranian National Standards Organization”. The Organization is an independent executive organization, which is under direct supervision of the President. The Standards Organization is responsible for policy making, supervision and guiding of the Standard System in the country and is obliged to observe the quality of domestic products and services and all commodities which are exported from or imported to the country. Main activities of the Organization are divided into four main pillars: standardization, metrology, certification, and conformity assessment. The structure of the Organization is comprised of a standard supreme council and the head of organization which is appointed by the President for a period of four years.
