Abstract
The aim of this Act is to establish and maintain equal status and equal opportunities for women and men, and thus promote gender equality in all spheres of the society. The Minister shall appoint the Director of the Centre for Gender Equality and the members of the Gender Equality Complaints Committee, and, after each parliamentary election, appoint a Gender Equality Council. The Minister shall also create a Gender Equality Forum and present to parliament a four-year gender equality action programme. Municipalities shall appoint gender equality committees. The Act sets out the procedure before the Gender Equality Complaints Committee and provides with protection from discrimination and equal rights for men and women.
