Act No. 162 on organic agricultural production.

The present Act lays down rules on organic agricultural production in Iceland. It applies to the production, processing, transport, storage and distribution of all kinds of organic agricultural products. The Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority shall be the competent authority for the purposes of this Act. The Icelandic Intellectual Property Office shall handle the accreditation of certification bodies. A regulation should be adopted specifying the minimum requirements for certified organic production methods in Iceland. The Act further sets rules on operation licenses and responsibilities of farmers.
