Abstract
The present Act describes the role and functions of the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST), which was established by Act No. 167 of 21 December 2007. MAST is a government agency responsible for the administration of food matters in accordance with this Act and other acts under which the Agency operates. It shall, through its activities, promote consumer protection, animal health and welfare, plant health and safety, wholesome foods and food quality. The Act contains provisions on the Agency's function, role, organisation, powers, etc.
