Abstract
This Act establishes the Meteorological Office of Iceland and regulates its tasks, integration, funding, and delivery of data. Among its tasks are: monitoring natural hazards and issue warnings and forecasts of imminent danger caused by weather and weather-related factors, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, landslides, floods and flash floods; to take care of general systematic water measurements in inland waters; to take care of measurements of snow layers and glacier management and mapping of ice layers of waterfalls and lakes; to make observations and measurements of air, precipitation and water pollution; to map the country's weather conditions and monitor climate changes and their effects on the aspects of nature that the organization is supposed to monitor; to carry out a risk assessment due to natural disasters at the request of the public safety authorities or other authorities; etc.

This Act enters into force on 1 January 2009.
