Abstract
This Regulation sets out the duties and tasks of Iceland’s national reference laboratories for the testing of Salmonella samples. It requires the laboratories to cooperate with the EU reference laboratory, coordinate the activities of laboratories responsible for analysing samples, organise inter-laboratory comparative testing where appropriate, disseminate information from the EU reference laboratory to the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority and relevant laboratories, and provide scientific and technical assistance to the Authority. It also assigns specific tasks relating to participation in Salmonella monitoring and antimicrobial-resistance programmes, training of laboratory staff, notification of matters concerning Salmonella vaccine strains and other control methods, collection and reporting of data on laboratory activities and methods, and monitoring developments in Salmonella epidemiology.
