Regulation
Abstract
This Regulation governs the fishing of lumpfish species, specifically Lumpfish (grásleppa) and red lumpfish (rauðmagi), within Icelandic fishing waters. It establishes licensing requirements, limits fishing rights to vessels holding quota shares in designated local fishing areas, and regulates the use of fishing nets, including mesh sizes and inspection intervals. The regulation also imposes seasonal closures and numerous geographically defined closed areas aimed at protecting marine resources, bird nesting areas, and sustainable fishery management. In addition, it restricts certain fishing methods and sets penalties for violations under Icelandic fisheries legislation.
