Regulation No. 136/2026 on coastal fisheries.

This Regulation governs coastal fishing (“strandveiðar”) carried out with handlines during the months of May through August under a special fishing regime where catches do not count against ordinary quota allocations. It establishes the permit system administered by the Directorate of Fisheries, defines eligibility and ownership requirements for vessels and operators, divides fishing activities into four geographic landing zones, and imposes operational rules such as limits on fishing days, trip duration, gear, catch quantities, landing obligations, and electronic monitoring. The regulation also includes rules on ownership transparency, transfer of permits, reporting duties, sanctions for violations, and supervision aimed at ensuring sustainable, small-scale coastal fisheries management.
