Abstract
This regulation applies to Icelandic vessels using bottom fishing gear in the NEAFC Regulatory Area outside national jurisdictions. It defines bottom fishing gear as gear that rests on or is dragged along the seabed, and permits its use only within specifically listed areas, mainly around Hatton Bank, Josephine Seamount, the Mid-Atlantic Ridge, the Barents Sea, and Reykjanes Ridge, each defined by coordinates. Masters must also be aware of protected coral areas within those zones, and breaches of the regulation or related licence conditions may lead to penalties under Icelandic fisheries legislation.
