Abstract
This regulation governs lobster fishing within Iceland’s fisheries jurisdiction. It provides that lobster fishing is generally only permitted for vessels holding a lobster catch quota, and that lobster trawling is limited to fishing vessels of 50 metres registered length or less. It defines the permitted lobster-trawling season and lists the authorised fishing areas by coordinates, regulates how undersized lobster is treated for quota purposes, and sets detailed technical requirements for lobster trawls, including minimum mesh sizes and selectivity devices. It also prohibits gear that would obstruct mesh openings or prevent catch from escaping, establishes penalties by reference to Icelandic fisheries legislation, and includes a temporary provision banning all lobster fishing in Icelandic waters from 16 March 2024 to 15 March 2026.
