Abstract
This Regulation establishes the structure, functions, and operating procedures of the Advisory Committee on Genetically Modified Organisms (GMOs). The committee, appointed by the minister for three-year terms, advises both the minister and the Environment and Energy Agency on the implementation of GMO legislation, public education, accident prevention, and proposed regulations related to genetically modified organisms. It must provide opinions on applications concerning the contained use, release, distribution, and marketing of GMOs in Iceland, except for the lowest risk category, within specified deadlines. The regulation also sets rules on meetings, voting, confidentiality, annual reporting, and administrative support, while clarifying that information relevant to public health or environmental risks cannot be treated as confidential.
