Regulation No. 520/2015 on housing facilities for poultry, fur-bearing animals and pigs.

This regulation governs the location, planning, construction and housing conditions of livestock buildings used for poultry, fur-bearing animals and pigs, including manure storage facilities. It requires such buildings to comply with municipal planning rules, building permits and environmental safeguards, including water-pollution prevention, minimum distances from water sources where no water-protection zone has been set, and minimum distances from food businesses. It also requires use of best available techniques, closed systems for manure handling where applicable, and operational permits addressing manure use/disposal and odour control. Municipalities set distance requirements from residences, workplaces and recreation areas, but the regulation establishes minimum distances depending on the type and scale of farming, ranging from 50–100 m for poultry, 200–400 m for fur animals, and up to 600 m for large pig farms. Supervision is assigned to local health committees under the oversight of the Environment Agency, with enforcement and penalties under Icelandic environmental health and pollution-control legislation.
