Abstract
This regulation requires all Icelandic commercial fishing vessels licensed by the Directorate of Fisheries to carry remote monitoring equipment that automatically sends the vessel’s position, course, and speed at least once per hour to the joint monitoring centre of the Coast Guard and Directorate of Fisheries. Fishing trips cannot start unless the equipment is confirmed to be working, and if it fails during a trip the vessel must report manually every six hours until repaired, with violations subject to penalties under fisheries legislation.
