This regulation establishes a monitoring system for Campylobacter in poultry and poultry meat in Iceland, covering primary production, slaughter, processing, and market distribution. Its purpose is to ensure effective detection and control measures to reduce the presence of Campylobacter and protect food safety and public health. It requires sampling and microbiological testing before poultry meat is placed on the market, sets rules for interpreting positive results, requires slaughter-stage monitoring of chicken and turkey groups, and obliges food businesses to carry out testing, keep results for at least five years, report certain findings to the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority, and bear the costs of sampling and analysis.
