Regulation No. 911/2011 on paratuberculosis and measures for its prevention and control.

This regulation aims to support the eradication of paratuberculosis (garnaveiki/Johne’s disease) in ruminants. It applies to farms where the disease has been detected or vaccination has been neglected, and imposes movement and biosecurity restrictions, including a ten-year ban on supplying live sheep, goats or cattle from affected farms, limits on mixing visiting animals with resident animals, and restrictions on moving manure, hay, straw, turf, soil, raw wool and contaminated equipment from such farms. It requires annual vaccination of replacement lambs and kids in specified regions, with exemptions or postponements possible in limited cases, and treats farms that fail to vaccinate as infected-risk farms. The regulation also establishes notification duties for suspected cases in sheep, goats, cattle or reindeer, inspection and sampling in farms and slaughterhouses, official registers of affected farms, and conditions under which vaccination may be discontinued after ten years without detected disease. Enforcement is handled by the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority, with penalties under animal disease legislation.
