Abstract
This Decree defines the requirements of biosecurity of establishments keeping pigs for breeding, transit stalls and vehicles transporting pigs. The provisions of this decree apply without prejudice to any further reinforced biosecurity measures that may be provided for by the European and national legislation of reference in areas of restriction established for the onset of disease outbreaks of the pig.
The Decreee establishes that in order to ensure an appropriate level of biosecurity in establishments keeping pigs for breedingthe following elements are taken into consideration: a) productive orientation; b) breeding methods; c) maximum capacity of the breeding and turnover of animals within it; d) risk of contact with wild animals, in particular the swine species.
The biosecurity measures consist of structural protection measures or management measures and the biosecurity requirements for establishments keeping pigs for breeding are identified as: a) biosecurity requirements for family farms referred to in point 1 of the annex to this decree; b) biosecurity requirements for commercial farms referred to in points 2 to 5 of the annex to this decree; c) biosecurity requirements for transit barns of referred to in point 6 of the annex to this decree.
The Decree further sets rules concerning the monitoring and inspections concerning the diseases of pigs, the Cleaning and disinfection of the establishments that keeps pigs for breeding.
