Abstract
The aims pursued by this international agreement are the protection of water in the Mediterranean coast and the prevention of water pollution. For these purposes, the Parties shall strenghten the cooperation in this sector between the administrations of their own governments. The agreement provides for the establishment of the International Commission which shall combat pollution in the territorial sea as well as in internal waters of the continental coast. The Commission shall furthermore: a) examine common issues concerning water pollution; b) promote cooperation between the administrative services. The latter shall draw up an inventory on polluted waters, ensure the exchange of information in matter of projects that are likely to cause pollution risks, develop economic surveys on equipment and infrastructures that are needed to fight water pollution. A Technical Committee, consisting of water pollution experts, shall assist the Commission. Workshops may be held by the Commission.

The international agreement enters into force on the first day of the second month following the last notification.
