Abstract
The Interregional Action Plan for the Conservation of the Brown Bear in the Central Eastern Alps is an interregional plan of Italy, which represents the reference document for the Italian State and Regions and Autonomous Provinces on Brown Bear management and conservation in the Alps, in particular for the aspects related to: monitoring and information sharing; criteria and procedures for compensation and damage prevention; criteria and procedures for intervention in critical and emergency situations; training of operators; communication initiatives; procedures for compensation and damage prevention; criteria and procedures for intervention in critical and emergency situations; training of operators; communication initiatives.
This document could also constitute a support for local authorities in the Alpine region, promoting coordination among them, simplifying authorization procedures related to different bear management actions, identifying roles and responsibilities in the field, and optimizing the use of resources necessary to carry out the management and conservation activities of the species.
Considering that the Brown Bear territory in the Alps extends over the territory of more than one country, it is further considered necessary that the coordination between the entities that have shared this plan should, in the medium-long term, also be extended to neighbouring countries in order to promote the harmonization of conservation policies for the species on a cross-border scale.
