Legislative Decree 29 October 1999, n. 490 Consolidated text of the legislative provisions relating to cultural and environmental heritage, pursuant to article 1 of the law of 8 October 1997, no. 352.

This Law provides for a consolidated single text of the legislative provisions on cultural and environmental heritage, consisting of 166 articles and of 1 Annex (Annex A). This text determines that all cultural assets that make up the historical heritage and national artistic heritage are protected by the Italian state.
Historical, artistic, demo-ethno-anthropological, archaeological heritage are object of article 2; special categories of cultural goods are defined and listed in article 3; for issues on goods of public and private entities see article 5.
Article 146 (paragraph 1, sections c, d, e, f, g) states that rivers, streams, waterways, mountains, glaciers, national and regional parks, and forest areas are also subject to protective measures.
