Abstract
In compliance with the rules laid down in Directive 2000/59/EC, this Legislative Decree aims at reducing the discharges of ship-generated waste and cargo residues into the sea. The provisions apply to all waste and residues produced or released by ships calling at or operating within a national port. Moreover, the Legislative Decree aims at improving the availability and use of port reception facilities for ship-generated waste and cargo residues. Article 4 regards port reception facilities, which shall be subject to the issue of an authorization. Article 5 is concerned with waste reception and handling plans to be adopted by the competent authority of the harbour concerned. Article 11 makes provision in matter of inspection. The penalties established under article 13 shall be applied in case of infrigement. Four Annexes are attached. Details relative to the content of the waste reception and handling plans above-mentioned are laid down in Annex I.
