Legislative Decree No. 31 implementing Directive 98/83/EC on the quality of water intended for human consumption.

This Legislative Decree regulates the quality of water intended for human consumption in order to protect human health against harmful effects caused by water pollution. As referred to in article 4, in accordance with Directive 98/83/EC, water destined to human consumption must be wholesome and clean. Parameters and parametric values established by Annex I to this Legislative Decree must be met. Articles 6-8 make provision for internal and external controls. The Ministry of Health shall elaborate and publish a report concerning the quality of water intended for human consumption to ensure that the necessary information for the consumers is available. The Ministry shall as well submit to the European Commission the report provided for in article 17, paragraph 4. Article 19 concerns penalties to be applied in case of infringement.
