Abstract
The present Legislative Decree sets out, in compliance with Directive 2002/60/EC, the measures to be applied as a minimum in order to combat African swine fever. The presence or the suspected presence of the disease must be notified without any delay to the veterinary service of the competent local health authority (art. 3). The Ministry of Health shall therefore inform the European Commission. Further measures include inspection, quarantine, setting up of protection and surveillance zones, disinfection, disinfestation, measures to be adopted in case of outbreak of the disease in slaughterhouses or means of transport. Articles 15 and 16 regard the measures to be applied in case of outbreak of the disease in populations of feral pigs. Article 19 prohibits the use of vaccines against African swine fever. Article 21 deals with emergency plans. Article 23 sets out sanctions.
