Abstract
Fish and aquaculture products must be placed on the market in compliance with the conditions established by article 4 of Regulation 104/2000/EC, which concerns the minimum information to be provided to final consumers on the characteristics of such products. Ministerial Decree of 27 march 2002 sets up the monitoring system on the information provided in the labels of fish and aquaculture products as well as the related sanctioning apparatus. The purpose of the present Ministerial Circular is to ensure the correct application of the Decree by laying down some clarifications. The clarifications mainly concern: (a) products falling within the application sphere of the Decree; (b) commercial designations; (c) the indication on the labels of the methods and areas of production. When the products are sold to final consumers, the label must provide also, in addition to the commercial designation, the information relating to the catch area or farming area, in accordance with the modalities defined by the Annex to the Circular.
