Abstract
This document sets out the national programme on fisheries and aquaculture, applicable to the period 2017-2019. The Programme promotes the sustainable exploitation of marine resources as well as sustainable aquaculture. The instrument has been adopted pursuant to the European Union Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), which covers the conservation of marine biological resources and the management of fisheries and fleets exploiting such resources.
In order to make fisheries more productive and sustainable, the Programme outlines measures to ensure compliance with European standards and rules on sustainable fisheries and aquaculture; balance between fishing efforts and fishing opportunities; restoration of stocks. Specific measures regard combat against illegal fisheries.
Concerning governance, the Programme aims to ensure an efficient system involving public and private institutions, entities and operators in the field of fisheries and aquaculture.
