Abstract
This Decree applies to foodstuffs for particular nutritional uses fulfilling the requirements of infants and young children in good health and are intended for use by infants while they are being weaned, and by young children as a supplement to their diet and for their progressive adaptation to ordinary food. The Decree concerns cereal-based foods and baby foods other than cereal-based foods (art. 2).
These foods shall be manufactured from ingredients whose suitability for particular nutritional use by infants and young children has been established by generally accepted scientific data (art. 4). Cereal-based foods shall comply with the compositional criteria specified in Annex I and VI and baby foods other than cereal-based foods shall comply with the compositional criteria set under Annex II and VI. The labelling must indicate the age recommended for the baby food, the information as to the presence or absence of gluten, the energy value, and the quantity of each mineral and the instructions for the preparation.
