Regional Act no. 4 of 2022 concerning reuse of urban wastewater.

This Act, in compliance with the provisions of the European Law, concerns the reuse of urban waste water treated for irrigation purposes as well as for other specific uses including use for industrial purposes; the construction of urban water refinement plants in compliance with national Law and European Union Regulations, and according to the indications provided by the Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPA), by the Higher Institute for environmental protection and research (ISPRA) and the Higher Institute of Health (ISS); the improvement of the sustainability of purification systems, the adaptation of traditional purification systems with phytodepuration in rural areas, with the exception of potable use; the disposal of treated urban waste water.
The Act empowers the Regional Government to make regulations to define and specify irrigation, civil and industrial uses for treated urban wastewater; to provide for monitoring, control of services related to waste water treated; The Regional Agency for Environmental Protection (ARPA) is empowered to grant quality control of treated urban wastewater. The Act provides for planning of wastewater recovery activities and its reuse for irrigation purposes, to promote the circular economy and adaptation to climate change.
