Regional Law 30 November 2021, n. 54. Rules of discipline, protection and enhancement of pastoralism and transhumance, supporting the Lucanian territory.

With this Law the Basilicata Region recognizes and protects pastoralism and extensive farming practiced in the wild and semi-wild state and in transhumant form as a regional heritage. The Law defines the single or associated agricultural entrepreneur who practice extensive breeding in the wild, semi-wild and in transhumant form.
The Law identifies the tasks of the Region for the realization of its goals and objectives. Among those there is the dissemination of knowledge and respect and protection of the rural historical heritage, the environment, landscape, pastoralism and transhumance; the adoption of specific programs aimed at preserving and enhancing the cultural heritage of knowledge, techniques and customs related to sheep farming, extensive and transhumant breeding and to the agri-food productions that rural communities have historically practiced; the support of the technical-veterinary assistance activities in favor of livestock farms of the region; the provision of provides, in the context of rural development programs (RDP), the definition of priority criteria in favor of the shepherds.
